  • Summer Workshop: "How to Write a Successful Press Release for your Business"

    13th July, 2017

    Celtic Ross Hotel, Rosscarbery

Flavour.ie launches a series of Summer Workshops helping SMEs to tackle the business of writing a successful Press Release.

Kate Ryan knows that starting out in a new business means that as much of "the stuff" as possible needs to be done in-house to keep costs down. One big way businesses can help themselves to achieve this is by writing and publishing their own press releases.

"For small businesses that have little or no budget for marketing, a press release is one of the most important tools in the small business toolkit"
says Kate Ryan, food writer and events’ organiser at Flavour.ie, who is running workshops in West Cork to share practical skills and experience of writing successful press releases and getting them published too.

"Whether it’s a news story, an event, an offer or just keeping up your presence in the media a well-written press release can have a positive impact on your business,"
says Kate. "In my informative training workshop, I will walk you through how to do it and explain:
    1. What is a Press Release, and what is its function?
    2. The ingredients in a successful Press Release.
    3. How should it be structured?
    4. Getting it published.
    5. Editorial vs Advertorial.

Along the way, I will guide you to work through practical examples, and by the end of the workshop you will be well on your way to writing your first press release!"

Kate says: "It’s wrong to think that print media is not important anymore and to focus all the energy on social selling and engagement through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The fact is that print media is still the most cost effective and efficient way of getting your business message or a piece of news out there. Being able to write an effective Press Release and getting it published is a vital business skill that all entrepreneurs should be able to do."

Kate may be better known for her work in West Cork food but these skills are generic to every business – irrespective of sector, industry and stage of business that works for all types of media: traditional print; social media, bloggers, influencers, radio and TV.

Kate says, "I was invited to speak at a local Women in Business group about Writing for Business. What was clear was the assumption that you have to hire expensive PR companies; that no-one knows where to start with writing a press release or why it’s necessary. By the end, they had grasped how important this is to their business; how it can be effective and that it won’t cost the earth."

The workshop is available on four dates at four locations across West Cork during the summer. The workshops are an invaluable opportunity for small businesses to gain training in this area from someone who has had to learn it from the ground up with practical, tried and tested advice. Simply pick a date and location that suits you, then book online for the early-bird discount.

Places are limited to 20 per location, and take place on the second Thursday morning of the month from 9:45am - 1pm:

    · Clonakilty: Fernhill House Hotel, Thursday 11th May
    · Skibbereen: West Cork Hotel, Thursday 15th June
    · Rosscarbery: Celtic Ross Hotel, Thursday 13th July
    · Bantry: The Maritime Hotel, Thursday 17th August

Tickets cost €55 in advance online at www.flavour.ie/success or €60 on the day and includes the workshop and practical exercises, notes and refreshments.
